Novice | Participants who have never been on stage, late beginners or participants who have never received an A symbol (80%) for a solo in any competition or Eisteddfod in a particular discipline, enter under Novice. |
Amateur | A competitor who has achieved an A or A+ symbol or first place for a solo or set solo in the relevant dance style (Ballet / National / Modern / Tap etc.) in any other previous competition (not only the Eisteddfod of the Performing Arts). Compulsory from 9 years, i.e. A 7 year-old received an A at last year’s competition – they may enter either Novice or Amateur at the teacher’s discretion in the 8 year section An 8-year old received an A – they have to enter Amateur 9 years sections. |
Championship (Solo sections only) | A competitor who has achieved an A or A+ symbol for a solo in an Amateur section, or at teacher’s discretion. This section is marked by two or more Adjudicators at a very high standard. Dancers entered for Championship sections retain Amateur status for DTQ’s and group sections in the same discipline. Championship dancers may NOT enter class solo sections, but may still enter Amateur set solo sections. More info – Championships |
Elite Championship (Solo sections only) | A competitor who has qualified to compete internationally. Dancers entered for Elite Championship sections retain Amateur status for DTQ’s and group sections in the same discipline. |
Professional | Someone (excluding scholars) who dances for payment. If they are not affiliated with a studio/school, they should affiliate. |
Teacher | Someone (excluding scholars) who teaches dance, but does not spend many hours training themselves. If they are not affiliated with a studio/school, they should affiliate. |
